35 (I) - Lament, To be Loved by the World and God

I
Father, I’m afraid I must confess,
Of Envy I must repent.
But forgive me if I entertain,
They cause me to lament.
For right by Envy I perceive,
All are loved by thee,
But in this world of light and dark
Be those loved by world and God,

Those in this class have had their fun
As your prodigal sons.
They’ve lived the life of glitz and glam.
They return then they repent.
But forgive me Lord if I do err,
To wish to strangle these poor men,
Not because I’ve virtue, no,
But because I hadn’t sinned as well.

They leave your Word to wander,
A dessert full of world’s desserts.
Sure they’re without the Word,
But really, who’d complain
About fame, fortune, fleshly things,
Ending temptation by giving in,
Only to be saved
By a little grace.
Of penance, penance, penance,
To say of their repentance,
Damn it! Pride speaks in their confessions!

They come back to your churches
And praise God they’re forgiven!
I’ve taken wives, taken lives, and I’ve robbed the blind,
But God has saved me from my lament,
He’s saved me from my penance!
For through grace it is we’re saved!
(But oh, don't be like me, don't seek worldly things).

And why, they would speak this to the whole congregation,
As if there ought to be a celebration.
Of course, who would give up their Pride
Who for the love of God,
(And God forgive me for unedifying speech)
Would profess to want to cuff a stone
Down their tearful throats,
To silence the errors of their tongues!
Oh Lord, who would dare
To be sick and tired of prodigal sons
Loved by men and God!
They tell us not to sin,
But it seems they want to let us know,
They’ve enjoyed the pleasure
Of both their sins and God.
Kyrie Eleison.
