35 (XII) - Lament, To be Loved by the World and God

I think my tears have passed for now.
What a God you are,
Patient with my tantrum
Till I have calmed myself.
Between your love and the world’s love
We blaspheme seeking both.
You gifted us your holy Word,
Still in a turning world.

Your Commandments never change!
How blessed are we to know.
Those who give their hearts for God’s
Will know the path of saints.
For there can be no compromise
On eternal life.
What God has said, God has said
To save from eternal strife.

But woe to those who sit with Pride,
Who’d rather blind their eyes,
So when the Word is carved to stone,
May sin before the Ark!
These are the kind who will then say,
“But did God really say?”
They compromise the way to sin
They lead the sheep astray.

But God, mercy for the sheep!
This world’s king deceives.
He gifts a habit of sin from birth.
Pray it be exchanged
For your habit of virtue
Fit for heaven’s ways.
Pray we right ourselves
Before we’re further chastised.

And for my sin of envy I confess
Some are born envied,
Some are born pitied,
But what does it matter
If they’re all to burn in the same city?
God save us from this world.
Reform us by your mercies.
Amen.
